SPRINGDALE — Police arrested a man who allegedly operated a “sophisticated” counterfeiting operation making state identifications and Mexican drivers’ licenses.
Pablo Rivera, 25, was arrested before police executed a search warrant at 2200 E. Mountain, apartment M205, in Springdale, according to a news release. There, Springdale detectives and officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement seized a large number of counterfeit IDs from various states, including Ohio, California and Texas.
Springdale police detectives C.E. Motsinger and Al Barrios also found Mexican drivers’ licenses, Social Security cards, permanent resident cards and resident alien cards, along with $3,000 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of fake ID cards, the news release states.
The apartment also contained a computer counterfeiting system, laminating equipment, fake ID and drivers’ license templates in addition to blank counterfeit Social Security cards and state seal laminate sheets.
The operation is believed to be part of an organized counterfeiting ring operating nationwide, according to the news release. Springdale police and immigration officials have arrested nine other suspects in Northwest Arkansas since May 13. At least two other counterfeiting operations have been shut down as a result of those arrests.
Things are getting more sophisticated in supporting illegal immigrants in this country. Of Course this has criminal applications as well.
