HELP WANTED: Would you pick Apples for $25 an hour?

Cross Posted from Stiknstein has no mercy

The Agriculture Industry needs immigrants to do the $50,000 per year jobs that Americans wont do.

Jack King, manager of national affairs for the California Farm Bureau Federation said,
“Labor shortages are becoming more pronounced and severe in California. Currently in the Imperial Valley and in Yuma, Ariz., farmers are paying up to $25 an hour for workers and they still can’t find adequate supplies.

AND CONGRESS IS LISTENING TO ‘EM…..

” We’ve tried and tried but nobody seems to want these $50,000 per year positions.” a California grower complained. We’d rather hire Americans, but we’ve run out of poor people. Everybody these days just makes too much money. We’re hoping we can lure some Mexicans from their high paying jobs down there. We think this Amnesty bill is just the answer.”

Here’s what they are saying:SOURCE

Barry Bedwell, president of the California Grape and Tree Fruit League:

“We have in mind to reinvigorate the immigration reform issue and specifically, by re-introducing AgJOBS, we hope to bring the whole concept of comprehensive immigration reform to the forefront,”

Tim Chelling, a spokesman for Western Growers Assoc.:

“There is a golden window of opportunity here. It is high time – the workers deserve it, the farmers deserve it and the nation deserves it.”

Jack King, manager of national affairs for the California Farm Bureau Federation:

King said labor shortages are becoming more pronounced and severe in California. Currently in the Imperial Valley and in Yuma, Ariz., farmers are paying up to $25 an hour for workers and they still can’t find adequate supplies.
“We think that the current leadership is more disposed to this problem. That was the problem this past year. Some members did not want to deal with it. Their constituents were demanding tighter borders and not legalization,” King said. “We think the current leadership is more open on that. We’re optimistic this is the time to get the job done.”

A Democrat spokesman noted:
“WOW…..JUST WOW…….These guys have hearts of gold …….If only there were some Americans willing to take a pay cut and help them out. I know $50,000 isn’t that much, but it would mean so much to the country. If Amnesty and open borders is what it takes, well…..Congress will do what it can.”

Amnesty supporters think they’ve got a better than even chance of passing it in spite of overwhelming public resistance. Agribusiness wants Amnesty, and The Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits and Security Act (HR 371 and S. 237), this session’s Amnesty bill, has been introduced and quickly hidden in committee.
A couple of us at CAII spent the afternoon trying to find out anything on the progress of this Bill and came up empty.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein and her (co Sponsors), have sent this bill to the Judiciary Committee where they are …….well, we don’t know what is going on because no one is talking about it……..(Well except produce growers who claim they can’t find people who’ll work for $25/ hr.)

That’s just one of the Lies the Agriculture industry is using to get this Bill passed.
HERE’S WHAT IT WILL DO ………SOURCE
1) Grants Amnesty and Permanent Residency to any illegal immigrant who has worked 150 days in the last 2 years.
2) ) Grants Amnesty and Permanent Residency to the spouses and minor children of these illegal immigrants.
3) Exempts these illegal aliens from prosecution for social security-related identity or payment false statements if such conduct occurred prior to the granting of blue card status. (So if they stole your identity and screwed up your life they CAN’T BE PROSECUTED.)
4) Provides Amnesty to the Employers who have hired these illegal immigrants over the years.

But a job recruiting specialist was frank:
” This is the kind of total package you need in the competitive produce picking industry. Sure $50,000 sounds like a lot, but if we can get Congress to sweeten the deal with the immunity from prosecution and citizenship perks, we should be able to get a lot of the Social Security Fraud and Identity thief felons to give us serious consideration.

AAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

This is a bad bill……..and they’re hiding it in committee because they know it’s bad.

The folks who raise race horses and grow your peaches and tomatoes, want to let someone who Crossed into your country illegally, stole your Identity…ruined your credit, and got you in trouble with the IRS, off scot free, then reward ‘em, their spouses, and their kids with citizenship. Oh yeah…..employers get amnesty from prosecution too….heh.

AGRIBUSINESS IS MAKING UP THE LIES AND THE CONGRESS AND THE PRESIDENT ARE GOING ALONG FOR THE VOTES….

RIGHHHHHHHHHHHT. $25 DOLLARS AN HOUR……if you believe that………..But this is the money QUOTE

” Some members did not want to deal with it. Their constituents were demanding tighter borders and not legalization…….
We think the current leadership is more open on that.”

TRANSLATION: “In the previous Congress, members represented the wishes of their CONSTITUENTS. We believe the current leadership is more willing to ignore those pesky constituents and do what WE tell ‘em to.”

Guess the hundreds of legal American citizens that lined up for the jobs at Swift are kicking themselves for not holding out for those $50,000/ yr produce picking jobs.

  1. $25.00 an hour?Are you kidding me.
Here in Indiana 7 or $8.00 is top
dollar. The government pays Red Gold to bring in mexicans not only for fields, but on the factory
line at 9 or $10.00 an hour. But hire Americans in at $6.50 per hour.Plus we have to take a test.
No felonies.Sounds like WE are being sold out. What can we do?
I’m tired of hearing “better life”
    “cheap labor” it’s all lies.
