Texas deputy to pay price for defending self

This is becoming a disturbing trend…

From The Washington Times:

A Texas deputy sheriff who fired shots at a fleeing vehicle after the driver tried to run him down faces 10 years in prison for injuring one of the passengers, a Mexican national being smuggled illegally into the United States.

The U.S. attorney, who won lengthy prison terms last year for two U.S. Border Patrol agents in the shooting of a drug-smuggling suspect, also prosecuted Edwards County Deputy Sheriff Guillermo F. Hernandez, who is to be sentenced next month.

The deputy’s boss, Sheriff Donald G. Letsinger, said his officer — who had been on the job for a year — “followed the letter of the law” in defending himself in the April 2005 incident and questioned why the government brought charges.

The deputy’s Dec. 1 conviction has enraged his hometown of Rocksprings, Texas, population 1,250, where “Free Gilmer” signs have been posted. The Baptist church is paying the deputy’s mortgage and others have come up with costs for the family’s truck, propane and water bills.

Hernandez, 25, and his wife, Ashley, have a 4-month-old daughter.

“The town is outraged that this has happened to our deputy,” said the Rev. Albert Green, pastor at the First Baptist Church. “Those people were in this country illegally, and they tried to run him down. They were the criminals, but the prosecutors made our deputy out to be the criminal.

“I do not know a single person who doesn’t feel Gilmer was prosecuted for doing his job,” said Mr. Green, who is the deputy’s pastor. “I do not know a finer, more well-behaved gentleman. He would not purposely or willfully hurt anyone.”

Let us just constantly try our law enforcement against trying to defend us against illegal immigration! Let us put Campean and Ramos in jail. Let us crucify these officers let us give awards to guardsmen who retreat from armed military, or para-military units, on the border!

I am sorry this is complete chaos…

Florida to Shift Voting System With Paper Trail

I saw this coming years ago…

From, ug, the ny times:

Gov. Charlie Crist announced plans on Thursday to abandon the touch-screen voting machines that many of Florida’s counties installed after the disputed 2000 presidential election. The state will instead adopt a system of casting paper ballots counted by scanning machines in time for the 2008 presidential

Voting experts said Florida’s move, coupled with new federal voting legislation expected to pass this year, could be the death knell for the paperless electronic touch-screen machines. If as expected the Florida Legislature approves the $32.5 million cost of the change, it would be the nation’s biggest repudiation yet of touch-screen voting, which was widely embraced after the 2000 recount as a state-of-the-art means of restoring confidence that every vote would count.

Several counties around the country, including Cuyahoga in Ohio and Sarasota in Florida, are moving toward exchanging touch-screen machines for ones that provide a paper trail. But Florida could become the first state that invested heavily in the recent rush to touch screens to reject them so sweepingly.

Other states that rushed to buy the touch-screen machines are also abandoning them. Earlier this week, the Virginia Senate passed a bill that would phase out the machines as they wore out, and replace them with optical scanners. The Maryland legislature also seems determined to order a switch from the paperless touch screens, though it is not clear yet if it will require the use of optical scanners or just allow paper printers to be added to the touch screens.

On Monday, Representative Rush D. Holt, Democrat of New Jersey, plans to introduce a bill in Congress that would require all voting machines nationwide to produce paper records through which voters can verify that their ballots were recorded correctly. A majority of House members have endorsed the proposal, and the changes have strong support among Senate Democrats. Mr. Holt’s bill would also substantially toughen the requirements for the touch-screen machines that have printers, and experts say this could give even more impetus to the shift toward the optical scanning systems.

It really is old, being right so often and having so few people listening. I am actually tired of being right! I want to be wrong! I could never understand the idiocy around the 2000 election and then the dang stupidity about making elections by electronic device.

Well, I am starting to be proven right again and again, I am not happy about being right.

Punxsutawney Phil predicts early spring

That is right folks the old ground hog has predicted an early spring! This is good news for me as I need to get my buses up on my property and the earlier the spring melt happens and the trails dry out the better.

So we are hoping for an earlier than predicted move to our property.

Don’t be too concerned, there will be some down time, but I will be back and running up on the mountain in a couple of months.

Now, my radio show will continue as we did get cell phone service up there on the mountain. If you have not enjoyed our show I highly recommend it.

Thanks Phil!

Boston Bomb Scare

The Boston bomb scare, please…

It was nothing more than light brights hung around the city, well the ones in the Lame Stream Media (LSM), that they are trying to prosecute a couple of idiots for putting up. Turner took the full blame stating it was a promotional campaign. So why the prosecution? Heck why the over reaction? The initial reports made me think these were real threatening objects. However, when I saw them on the news, I said that looks like light brights I grew up with.

Can there be over-reaction in these terrorist times, I wil leave that to you, but I think closing down a whole city and a river for what was, obvious to me, not an explosive threat yes.

We await your opinion…

Our Border Patrol Bureaucracy is seriously broken

Cross posted from Bear Creek Ledger

Back on January 16th I wrote about a Border Patrol agent:

Mama don’t raise your child to become an illegal aliensnip…Unfortunately this ignorant Mother encouraged her children to break the law of the U.S. of America. As a result one of her sons is now dead. Six of the seven illegals were taken into custody and her son decided to fight the Border Patrol. Of course I’m sure the case of Ramos and Compean has emboldened those from Mexico to defy and fight the Border Patrol. This ignorant Mother will probably also sue the BP just like the drug smuggler who was stopped by Ramos and Compean.

snip…Unfortunately, this Border Patrol agent could find the fate of Ramos and Compean in his future since we know that the bureaucrats at the BP, DHS and Justice think illegals do have more rights than a Border Patrol agent or US Citizens.

Unfortunately it looks like this prediction could come true. H/T Stein Report
From Fox News we find out:

The local border patrol union claims self-defense and fears the agent is about to be railroaded after Mexican officials were given unrestricted access to the witnesses before U.S. investigators. Union officials claim that access allowed the Mexican officials to frame the agent using false testimony.“The Mexican consulate was allowed to coach the witnesses,” said Brandon Judd, president of Local 2544, which represents 90 percent of the 2,900 Customs and Border Protection agents in Southern Arizona. “Now the agent is in jeopardy because these witnesses were allowed to solidify their stories as the Mexican consulate coached them to do.”

The incident happened two weeks ago, when a 39-year-old border agent tried to arrest seven illegal aliens near Naco, Ariz. The agent had three immigrants inside a vehicle and three on the ground, but Francisco Rivera, age 22 refused to comply, the agent said.

Rivera picked up a rock, according to Judd, and cocked his arm to throw it from about 10 feet away.

The agent, a former Marine, says he killed Rivera with a single shot when he failed to answer commands to put the rock down.

snip…Following the shooting, the six witnesses were transported to the Naco Border Patrol processing center for questioning. The Mexicans were put in an unlocked cell.

An hour later, investigators for the Border Patrol and the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office arrived. While interviewing the first witness inside a windowless interrogation room, three Mexican Consulate officials arrived and began interviewing the remaining witnesses.

Two border agents say they objected, but the special agent in charge, Darcy Olmos, gave the Mexican official unrestricted access inside the BP headquarters, according to Judd.

“This was an active investigation and our management allowed officials from the Mexican government into the processing area,” Judd said. “This compromised the investigation.”

snip….The agent has been reassigned pending outcome of the investigation. Meanwhile, Mexican President Felipe Calderone asked for a thorough investigation. Mexico’s foreign secretary condemned the shooting as an act of “disproportionate force.”

Even if the agent is cleared, union representatives expect a lawsuit.

This is beyond enraging. I was being snarky in my comments previously. There is a serious problem with the Department of Homeland Security and within it the Border Patrol.
