Ok here we go again.

Let one person try and do the right thing and we get a bunch of hell about it.

I am so sick and tired of hearing this crap!

So this mayor Nieland decides that he just wants to check and make sure that the people that are coming to work in his City are legal?

What’s the big deal????

Must you make something of this, why does it have to be racial.

It’s not his fault that they never bothered to learn English!

And it can’t be any (truer) is that the right word?

Yeah I know what I am going to hear about this one, but you know I don’t care…
I don’t agree so whine on and on it makes me no difference!

If you want to get to the fair part lets talk about or Country being INVADED, then we can talk about what is fair.

I am both English and Spanish speaking.

I carry myself as an AMERICAN should.

Try it some time, maybe things will go different.

Yeah your pissed off so what!

KCRG – News – Controversy Over Immigration Crackdown in Marion

MARION-The mayor of Marion is hiring a new, specialized member of his police force to target illegal immigrants.

He points to the construction trades — drywall, siding, roofers — as hurting American workers by hiring undocumented workers.

Now one company is speaking out and says this is anything but fair.

In the warm months, one of the biggest roofers in Marion, EIC roofing, employs up to 120 people.

“We’re having the most luck with people that come from other states to iowa to work for us,” said Wylie Hachey o IEC Roofing.

The company brings crews from Texas — workers who speak mostly Spanish.

Marion’s mayor is hiring a new police officer to make sure such workers are here legally.

“I’m not against the Mexican worker if that Mexican worker male or female comes here and goes through and becomes an American,” said John Nieland, Marion’s mayor.

Eva Florencia is an American. She was born in Wisconsin and went to Washington High School in Cedar Rapids.

“Now I feel that I’m not wanted because they think I don’t have any rights to be here,” said Florencia.

Her family is afraid the new immigration crackdown will target them unfairly and hurt her work in the roofing industry.

“I like Marion, but I just don’t like what’s going on right now,” Florencia.

“Some how that’s getting lost in all this conversation. The people who are getting discriminated against are the American worker,” said Nieland.

The mayor heard from construction business owners that illegal workers are giving certain companies an edge with cheap labor.

EIC checks its roofers legal status and pays about $18 an hour.

“We just don’t want our customers and our workers to be hurt because of bigotry.”

But the mayor insists it’s not an issue of race, but legality, with both sides wanting fairness on the job.

Mayor Nieland has decided not to run for re-election because of medical reasons.

The city council has already approved the money needed for the new immigration police officer.
