Former Sailor Arrested on Terror Charges

This just ticks me off beyond expression…

From The Las Vegas Sun:

A former Navy sailor is accused of supporting terrorism by disclosing secret information about the location of Navy ships and the best ways to attack them.

The secrets wound up with a suspected terrorism financier, investigators say.

During an initial appearance Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix, Ariz., Hassan Abujihaad, 31, accepted removal to Connecticut, where he is charged with supporting terrorism with intent to kill U.S. citizens and transmitting classified information to unauthorized people.

He apparently was working as a delivery man in Phoenix.

The investigation that began in Connecticut followed a suspected terrorist network across the country and into Europe and the Middle East.

Abujihaad, who also is known as Paul R. Hall, is charged in the same case as Babar Ahmad, a British computer specialist arrested in 2004 and accused of running Web sites to raise money for terrorism.

Ahmad is scheduled to be extradited to the U.S. to face trial.

During a search of Ahmad’s computers, investigators said they discovered files containing classified information about the positions of U.S. Navy ships and discussing their susceptibility to attack.

Abujihaad, a former enlisted man, exchanged e-mails with Ahmad while on active duty on the USS Benfold, a guided-missile destroyer, in 2000 and 2001, according to an affidavit released Wednesday. He allegedly purchased videos promoting violent jihad, or holy war.

In those e-mails, Abujihaad discussed naval military briefings and praised those who attacked the USS Cole in 2000, according to the affidavit by FBI Agent David Dillon.

The documents retrieved from Ahmad show drawings of Navy battle groups and discuss upcoming missions. They also say the battle group could be attacked using small weapons such as rocket-propelled grenades. The ships were never attacked.

Authorities discovered Abujihaad’s military e-mail address among the computer files, and he had a secret security clearance that would have allowed him access to that material, according to the affidavit.

This maggot is a traitor, plain and simple and I wish we still shot them!!

MA military supplier raided for hiring illegal aliens

Cross Posted From Bear Creek Ledger:

So, Senators Kennedy and Kerry brought some of that military spending bacon home and this company received a contract probably based on their minority status being Hispanic likes to hire illegal aliens.

From The Stein Report:

“The owner and three managers of a New Bedford [Mass.] leather manufacturer that’s won more than $91 million in U.S. military contracts were arrested Tuesday for allegedly hiring illegal immigrants. The company, Michael Bianco Inc., hired illegal aliens as it tried to meet deadlines to supply backpacks and other products to the military, federal officials said in a court filing. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers raided the company Tuesday morning,” the AP reports. “In an affidavit, investigators claimed that owner Francesco Insolia, plant manager Dilia Costa, payroll manager Ana Figueroa and office manager Gloria Melo allowed an undercover officer who told them she was an illegal immigrant to continue working at the plant, and Figueroa advised her how to obtain a fake Social Security card.”

I’m wondering how many non-Hispanics are actually hired at this company. Oh yeah, if you read the full story this company is totally focused on hiring illegals. They also make leather goods for Coach Inc. and Timberline Co. I’d venture a guess that even if a non-Hispanic applied for a job at Michael Bianco Inc. they would not get the job.

Additional info update:
My supposition that this employer was only hiring illegal aliens is correct. It’s estimated that 500 of the 580 employees will be deported. All are Hispanic. Michael Bianco Inc. hires illegals because they have less options and are more desperate, plus, working conditions are harsher with the illegals more willing to accept severe workplace conditions. Go here for the details and video.

Also, Rep. Marsha Blackburn has introduced legislation to prevent financial institutions from issuing credit cards to illegal aliens. I like the tag line from Blackburn on this one – “You can’t get a Visa, without a visa”!

The Photo Identification Security Act would require banks to use what Blackburn calls ’secure forms of identification’ to obtain credit. In a statement put out by her office, she says that Bank of America ‘has come under fire in response to reports that it allows illegal immigrants access to credit cards without proper documentation,’” the Memphis Commercial Appeal writes. “‘This bill closes a critical loophole that banking institutions have used to circumvent the letter of the law they have used to target illegal aliens as a new source of revenue. It says to banks and illegal immigrants alike, ‘You can’t get a Visa, without a visa,’” Blackburn said.

Democrats Want Iraq Pullout by Fall 2008

From The Las Vegas Sun:

In a direct challenge to President Bush, House Democrats unveiled legislation Thursday requiring the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq by the fall of next year.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the deadline would be added to legislation providing nearly $100 billion the Bush administration has requested for fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She told reporters the measure would mark the first time the new Democratic-controlled Congress has established a “date certain” for the end of U.S. combat in the four-year-old war that has claimed the lives of more than 3,100 U.S. troops.

Pelosi made her announcement as Senate Democrats reviewed a different approach – a measure that would set a goal of a troop withdrawal by March of 2008. Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada called a closed-door meeting of the rank-and-file to consider the measure.

In the House, Pelosi and the leadership have struggled in recent days to come up with an approach on the war that would satisfy liberals reluctant to vote for continued funding without driving away more moderate Democrats unwilling to be seen as tying the hands of military commanders.

Yeah, notice it is always spring of 2008 being discussed. Ask yourself why? It is simple the Dems do not believe that the country will elect a democrat President if we are still at war. These people are political hacks, who do not care about the security of this country and they have a political investment in losing this war.

To make the overall measure more attractive politically, Democrats also intend to add $1.2 billion to Bush’s request for military operations in Afghanistan, where the Taliban is expected to mount a spring offensive.

The bill also will exceed Bush’s request for veterans’ health care and medical programs for active duty troops at facilities such as the scandal-scarred Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington.

Democrats also are including funds for a health care program for low-income children. The program is popular among governors of both political parties, but the administration has not signaled its acquiescence to the additional money.

As described by Democrats, the legislation will require Bush to certify by July 1 and again by Oct. 1. whether the Iraqi government is making progress toward providing for the country’s security, allocating its oil revenues and creating a fair system for amending its constitution.

They said if Bush certified the Iraqis were meeting these so-called benchmarks, U.S. combat troops would have to begin withdrawing by March 1, 2008, and complete the redeployment by Sept. 1.

Otherwise, the deadlines would move up.

If Bush cannot make the required certification by July 1, troops must begin a six-month withdrawal immediately. If Bush cannot make the second certification, the same six-month timetable would apply.

The legislation also requires the Pentagon to adhere to its existing standards for equipping and training U.S. troops sent overseas and for providing time at home between tours of combat.

Pelosi said the provision was designed to make sure the government would “not be sending our troops into battle without the proper training, the proper equipment.”

Yet it also permits Bush to issue waivers of these standards. Democrats described the waiver provision as an attempt to embarrass the president into adhering to the standards. But they concede the overall effect would be to permit the administration to proceed with plans to deploy five additional combat brigades to the Baghdad area over the next few months.

I predict this will not pass and that will mean that they have de-funded the troops.

Illegal Immigrant Kids Stranded

Cross posted from Red Hot Cuppa Politics

Rounding up illegal immigrants is creating a humanitarian crisis in Massachusetts. I guess the kids are over here to do the job American children won’t do.

Linked thru Drudge; here’s an excerpt:

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) – Dozens of young children were stranded at schools and with baby sitters after their parents were rounded up by federal authorities who raided a leather goods maker suspected of hiring illegal immigrants, authorities said Wednesday.
Immigration officials said 327 of the 500 employees of Michael Bianco Inc., mostly women, were detained Tuesday by immigration officials for possible deportation as illegal aliens.
About 100 children were stuck with baby sitters, caretakers and others, said Corinn Williams, director of the Community Economic Development Center of Southeastern Massachusetts.
“We’re continuing to get stories today about infants that were left behind,” she said. “It’s been a widespread humanitarian crisis here in New Bedford.”

Hm. If there were infants, I’ll bet they are anchor babies, little American citizens, born here.

Authorities released 45 detainees who were sole caregivers to children. No more releases were planned, said Marc Raimondi, a spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Eight pregnant women were also released for humanitarian reasons.

Those still in custody were given the option of letting their children stay with a guardian or putting them in state care, Raimondi said.

I guess as little American citizens, the babies and their moms will enjoy the full benefits of DCFS!
Here’s a little about the company:

Michael Bianco Inc., founded in 1985, specialized in manufacturing high-end leather goods for retailers including Coach Inc. (COH) and Timberland Co. (TBL) before landing a $9.4 million military contract in 2003 to make survival vests.

From 2004 and 2006, it won $82 million in military contracts to make products including lightweight backpacks. An Army spokesman did not return a call seeking comment about the status of the contracts.

Conditions at the factory were not ideal:

Investigators said the workers toiled in dingy conditions and faced onerous fines, such as a $20 charge for talking while working and spending more than two minutes in the bathroom.

I like this story because it points out two really important things about the illegal immigration situation: First, the workers were theatened with being fired if they complained, and afraid of being deported. Almost like an indentured work force.

Second, the tiresome phrase that they’re “doing the jobs Americans won’t do.” Sounds like they’re doing the jobs American companies don’t want to pay American workers to do, and don’t have to provide benefits.

Do we really want a total underclass? Our country has gone through centuries of total agony to resolve the importation of slaves, and it’s not even over, yet. Haven’t we learned anything?!???

Senators to shine light on credit card practices

I have been complaining about this behavior for years…

From Reuters:

Legislation may be needed to stop overzealous credit card companies from piling on interest rates and fees that have plunged millions of American families deeply into debt, a senior Democratic senator said on Tuesday.

On the eve of a hearing on the industry’s practices, Carl Levin of Michigan, who chairs the Senate permanent subcommittee on investigations, said too many consumers are suffering from what he called predatory practices and murky fees.

“Millions of families… are kept in debt and are in over their heads not just because of their own purchases… but because of the abusive practices and the excesses of the credit card companies,” Levin told reporters.

Testifying before Levin’s panel on Wednesday will be executives from Bank of America Card Services, JPMorgan Chase’s Chase Bank and Citigroup’s Citi Card.

The three companies did not immediately respond to messages asking to comment on the hearing.

Last week, Citigroup, the third-largest U.S. credit card issuer, said it will no longer automatically raise interest rates for cardholders who fail to make payments on other bills. Known as “universal default,” the practice has long been criticized by consumer advocates who argue that it victimizes poorer borrowers.

Norm Coleman of Minnesota, the top Republican on the subcommittee, said Citigroup’s recent move was encouraging.

We have got to bring back the usery laws I grew up with, the banking industry just plain needs to be controlled. I know I am a capitalist, but we give banks federal insurance to customers and we already regulate banking, so we need to control how much they can charge over the prime interest rate. We also need to do away with these fees and automatic jump in interest rates when you are in financial straights. Banks should be working with people in financial trouble, not raping them.

Montgomery Starts Sex-Ed Pilot Program

This is just disgusting…
From WaPo:

A health teacher at Argyle Middle School in Silver Spring spoke to eighth-graders yesterday about sexual orientation. And so began a pilot program in Montgomery County schools that delves deeper into issues of sexual and gender identity than most other school systems in the Washington region, if not the nation.

The field test, which will start in five other schools by the end of the month and — barring legal intervention — the rest of the county in fall, marks the first time Montgomery teachers have broached homosexuality as a part of the official lesson plan in eighth- and 10th-grade health classes.

How do you people keep your children in public school exactly? this is going to go nation wide? You had better start calling your elected cockroaches in washington and your local school boards and express your outrage over this.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Pro-Illegal Agenda

Cross posted from Faultline USA

Anti-illegal immigration activists need to be able to see the big picture to understand the lay of the illegal immigration battle ground. By the way, that battle ground is spelled “Globalization.” The translation of “Globalization” is spelled “North American Union.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is one of the major power brokers behind the pro-amnesty Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act.

Here’s what Source Watch said about the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce is a powerful business lobbying group in the United States. Since its current CEO Thomas J. Donohue came to power in 1997 the Chamber has increasingly supported Republican candidates and is now a driving force supporting the policies of the George W. Bush administration.

According to the Chamber’s website, the group’s mission is to “advance human progress through an economic, political and social system based on individual freedom, incentive, initiative, opportunity, and responsibility

Lobbying Spending
Political Money Line highlighted in February 2005 the Chamber and its Institute for Legal Reform reported combined spending of $53.38 million for lobbying the Executive and Legislative branches during 2004. According to the watchdog website, “This is the largest twelve-month amount reported spent by any group.”

Here’s part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce agenda:
Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens!
Privatization of Social Security!
Privatization of US Public schools!
Legal Tort Reform: Diminishing the clout of trial lawyers and reducing the impact on class action lawsuits on businesses!
Pro Senator John McCain??? (see last blog cited below)

Amnesty for millions of illegal aliens

Here’s the U.S. Chamber of Commerce view:

Throughout our history, the dreams and hard work of immigrants have been a driving force behind America’s success as a strong, prosperous nation. We need the continued contributions of these immigrants to grow and remain competitive.

The goal of the Americans for Better Borders (ABB) coalition is to unite regional business organizations and a wide array of companies and national trade associations representing manufacturing, hospitality, tourism, transportation, recreation, and other industry sectors to work to ensure the efficient flow of goods and people across our borders while addressing national security concerns.

The ABB was originally founded in 1998 and was successful in achieving a workable compromise on Section 110 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996.

Diggers Realm

Currently groups like the Chamber of Commerce try to spin the statistics and claim that things like the increase in crime and taxpayer costs can’t be traced back to illegal aliens because they aren’t tracked (thanks to clever laws put in place by proponents of illegal immigration not allowing prisons, law enforcement, schools and hospitals to ask for immigration status). . . .
The US Chamber of Commerce is for expedited immigration and was fully behind last year’s and this year’s
Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act that would give amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

Is your state a leader or laggard?
The U.S. business community came out with their take last week on how states compare in educating our nation’s youth. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Center for American Progress and the American Enterprise Institute released their Leaders and Laggards: A State-by-State Report Card on Educational Effectiveness report that graded each state (including D.C.) on nine separate indicators of achievement, effectiveness, and management.

The report in many ways reflects the Chamber’s view that schools need to be run more like businesses, for example, by including a “flexibility” indicator based partially on how many charter schools state law allows and the amount of autonomy principals have. But it can be a useful resource to determine where your state compares to other states in other areas, too. Most of the grades will not be new to many BoardBuzz readers since they just incorporated rankings from previous report cards by
Achieve, Inc, Education Next, Education Week, the Fordham Foundation, and NAEP into this one report. However, they did have one new and quite interesting indicator called “return on investment.”

Ex-NATO Commander Trades Military Power for Lobbying Power
General James L. Jone, who retired last month as Supreme Allied Commander of NATO forces in Europe, has joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as a lobbyist,” reports O’Dwyer’s. He “will head the Institute for Energy, which is to present itself as a grassroots organization .” The new energy group will be similar to the Chamber’s Institute for Legal Reform, which “seeks to diminish the clout of trial lawyers and reduce the impact on class action lawsuits on businesses.” Jones will focus on global warming and try to “unify energy stakeholders behind a common strategy” for affordable and secure power, according to Chamber president Tom Donohue. Jones previously “served as military liaison to Congress and worked closely with” Senator John McCain. At NATO, Jones played a leading role in such “out-of-area missions” as Afghanistan.
