Solar-Flare Surprise: Pure Hydrogen Shot at Earth

From Fox News:

A surprising solar flare sent a stream of pure hydrogen at Earth.

“We’ve detected a stream of perfectly intact hydrogen atoms shooting out of an X-class solar flare,” said researcher Richard Mewaldt of Caltech. “If we can understand how these atoms were produced, we’ll be that much closer to understanding solar flares.”

Solar flares occur when the sun’s twisted magnetic fields suddenly release their stored energy.

The energy jolts are classified into three categories, with X-class solar flares being major events that can trigger radio blackouts around the world and long-lasting radiation storms in the upper atmosphere.

(M-class are medium-sized flares and C-class are small flares with few consequences on Earth.)

U.S. green lights ‘anything into oil’

From WND:

A Georgia company looking to solve America’s energy problem has finally teamed up with the federal government, hoping to make millions of barrels of oil every day from virtually anything that grows out of the Earth.

Bell Bio-Energy, Inc. says it has reached an agreement with the U.S. Defense Department to build seven test production plants, mostly on military bases, to quickly turn naturally grown material into fuel.

“What this means is that with the seven pilot plants – the military likes to refer to them as demonstrations – with those being built … it gives us the real-time engineering data that we need to finish the designs for a full-scale production facility,” J.C. Bell, the man behind the project, told WND today.

“In 18 months or so, we will start manufacturing oil directly from waste and we will build up to about 500,000 barrels a day within two years. In another six months, we’ll reach a million barrels a day.”

As the United States now imports about 13 million barrels of oil a day, the only obstacle then to total energy independence from foreign sources will be the money needed to develop the processing plants, he said.

It is a bad idea to use organic material to feed inorganic machines. Only organic machines use organic materials. Drill, Drill, Drill!

Michigan Congressman Wants 50-Cent Tax Hike on Every Gallon of Gas

From FNC:

Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., wants to help cut consumption with a gas tax but some don’t agree with the idea, according to a new poll by the National Center for Public Policy Research

You have got to be kidding me! He is still talking about this idea? Taxing people out of consumption? This is idiotic and only a socialist commie bastard could even consider such a thing! We are are feeling the pain from high gas prices already! we have seen how the price of gas effects all manner of goods we consume. We the people are struggling to pay for our basics already and numb nuts wants to put a 50 cent per gallon tax on gasoline? JHere is my counter proposal, stop taxing gasoline at all! Freakin unbelievable…

Bush Begs Saudis For lower oil Prices

Fantastic now our President is bowing to the Saudis begging for greater production to lower oil prices. Why doesn’t he beg Congress to make it easier to build refineries in this country?? Why doesn’t hey beg Congress to open up our country to drill our own oil?? This is humiliating…

No bull: Texas plant makes natural gas from cow manure

Now this i like!…

From The Houston Chronicle:

The nation’s largest manure-to-natural gas plant got up and running Monday in the heart of Texas dairy country, a project expected to produce enough energy to power 11,000 homes a year.

In a high-profile example of the growing need for alternative energy, Huckabay Ridge gets manure from local dairy farms, processes it with grease and other restaurant waste, purifies it and turns it into natural gas.

“The beauty is that you take the waste products and you create a useful form of energy,” said Richard Kessel, president and CEO of Portsmouth, N.H.-based Environmental Power Corp. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Microgy Inc., owns the facility. “We look at these as non-depleting gas wells with a long-term supply of renewable energy.”

The Lower Colorado River Authority buys the gas and uses it to power homes in Central Texas, officials said. Next fall, San Francisco-based Pacific Gas & Electric Co. will buy natural gas from Huckabay Ridge, which will generate the energy equivalent of 4.6 million gallons of oil annually.

“This is a turning point in agriculture. … Agriculture is no longer just food and fiber; it is now food and fiber and fuel,” state Rep. Sid Miller, R-Stephenville, said Monday at the plant’s opening ceremony, where only a faint odor of manure wafted through the air. “Agriculture is going to responsible for producing a large percent of the world’s fuel.”

Huckabay Ridge is near Stephenville in rural Erath County, the state’s top-producing dairy county. The state has about 335,000 dairy cows, including 52,000 in Erath County. Each dairy cow produces more than 15 gallons of manure per day.

The site had been a composting facility where farmers took manure. Now, more than a dozen farmers take their herds’ waste there, paying only for transportation. The facility does not buy the manure or charge farmers to drop it off.

“It’s a great thing for everybody,” said John Traweek, whose family-run Jam Dot Dairy has been operating in nearby Lingleville for 45 years.

You can do this with any manure and I am all for it! Let’s get the tons of manure from those giant pig farms turned into natural gas! There just isn’t a downside to this one and I am wondering why it took so long?

U.S. to Study Protection for Alaska Loon

Here we go again…

From The Las Vegas Sun:

A petition seeking Endangered Species Act protection for a rare loon that breeds in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve has been accepted for review by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Conservationists hope an eventual listing of the yellow-billed loon will curb petroleum development in the 23-million acre reserve that covers much of Alaska’s western North Slope.

I am sick and tired of this stuff. If the loon cannot survive that is it’s problem. Don’t all these left wing eco-nuts believe in Darwin’s theory of evolution? Well than the loon can adapt or die off, that is darwinism. We need to start developing ALL our resources, both inland and on the continental shelf. We want to get off foreign oil well that would REQUIRE drilling for our own oil reserves and alternatives, not just one or the other.
