Walter Reed performs rare transplant of pancreas cells

From The Washington Post;
You have got to read this article. This is just too cool. God, bless him and his loved ones for going through all this.

A 21-year-old airman who was shot in the abdomen at a remote outpost in Afghanistan last month underwent a rare procedure at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in which cells were rescued from his severely damaged pancreas and transplanted into his liver.

The procedure has been done only about 200 times, and almost always for a severe disease called pancreatitis. Surgeons at Walter Reed think this was the first case of pancreatic “autotransplantation” after a traumatic injury, although that claim could not be independently verified.

The operation involved removing the airman’s pancreas at Walter Reed; flying the organ to Miami, where the cells were extracted and preserved; and then returning the cells to Washington, where they were infused into the patient’s liver. There the cells become permanent residents, secreting hormones into the bloodstream and performing part of the function of the original pancreas. The process occurred over less than 24 hours and involved about 60 people.

There is just so much about this story that is heartwarming and wonderful. This is God, folks, out of tragedy, comes hope. Out of a hateful, violent act, comes new technology, and a new way of life. I don’t care how many of us “infidels” those disgusting murderers try to kill, they will never crush our spirits, and we will prevail.

Up to 56,000 more contractors likely for Afghanistan, congressional agency says

I know that libs and conservatives alike have a problem with the surge. But, since WWII we have waged war with the intent of “nation building”. Contractors build things, so there you go.

From The Washington Post:

The surge of 30,000 U.S. troops into Afghanistan could be accompanied by a surge of up to 56,000 contractors, vastly expanding the presence of personnel from the U.S. private sector in a war zone, according to a study by the Congressional Research Service.

Gibson Empathizes with Obama: ‘Holy God, What a Weight that Is on Your Shoulders’

Bye, Bye, Charles Gibson, oh, bye, bye and again, bye, bye.
From Newsbusters;

In his swan song interview with President Barack Obama, which consumed more than ten minutes of World News, ABC’s Charles Gibson couldn’t have provided a friendlier or more empathetic platform to Obama on the “weight” of sending troops to war and how “devilishly difficult” it’s become to pass health care plan because of a few rogue Senators. Gibson, set to retire Friday, teased his last Wednesday newscast:

The Uncooperative Radio Show Host and I call these people “Morons” all the time on our Radio Show, we call these morons; the “Lame Stream Media”, but now I think, that, that is too nice a term for this verman.

CNN Considers Political Correctness as a Factor in Ft. Hood Shootings?

The Major was and is a Major “Nut Job Muslim Terrorist” period. Case, closed, everything else done. All you Left Wing Socialist, Commie Bastards get over this one.
From Newsbusters:

On Wednesday’s Situation Room, CNN’s Brian Todd actually considered that political correctness prevented earlier action against Ft. Hood shooter Nidal Hasan. Despite referencing “a senior investigative official who…said he has never heard any indication…that Hasan got any favorable treatment…before this shooting,” Todd also cited three others who were certain of the political correctness factor.

The CNN correspondent did not lead his report with any mention of the possible PC treatment the Muslim army major might have received, a graphic on-screen hinted what was to come later in the report: “Hasan’s Contacts & Behavior Examined: ‘Political correctness’ a possible concern.”

New Program Will Teach Students About 9/11

We have had this issue of what our children are being taught in the school setting for weeks now. I want you, the parents and folks out there decide if this is a good thing or not. Feel free to comment and let me know.

From The AP:

NEW YORK — Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani joined Sept. 11 family members and college professors on Tuesday at a hotel blocks from the World Trade Center site to unveil a plan to teach middle and high school students about the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The 9/11 curriculum, believed to be the first comprehensive educational plan focusing on the attacks, is expected to be tested this year at schools in New York City, California, New Jersey, Alabama, Indiana, Illinois and Kansas.

It was developed with the help of educators by the Brick, N.J.-based Sept. 11 Education Trust, and was based on primary sources, archival footage and more than 70 interviews with witnesses, family members of victims and politicians, including Giuliani and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a New York senator at the time of the attacks.

The curriculum is taught through videos, lessons and interactive exercises, including one that requires students to use Google Earth software to map global terrorist activity.

One of the main goals is to help students entering middle and high school, who may have been too young to have strong memories of the attacks, to develop a tangible connection to what happened.

“In a few years, we will be teaching students who were not even alive at the time of the attacks,” said Anthony Gardner, the executive director of the Sept. 11 Education Trust.

This is timely because we are two days away from 911. Wake up people, we are still at war with Muslim Terrorists. God Bless and keep safe our Republic. The United States Of America.

Obama ‘Quite Comfortable’ As One-Term President, White House Spokesman Says

From CNSNews:

President Barack Obama is “quite comfortable” with the prospect of being a one-term president in order to address the issues he is concerned about, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday.

The comment came on the same day the president’s approval reached a new low, with only a 45 percent approval rating in the Zogby International poll released Friday. The poll said that 51 percent disapprove of the president’s job performance. The Real Clear Politics average of all polls puts the president approval rating at 52.2 percent.

Gibbs was addressing a question about a comment made by Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-Iowa), who said the president told him he is willing to risk a second term to get a health care overhaul bill approved.
Gibbs said that would be true of most issues.

I’m glad. Because the people will fire you in four years if you keep these policies going.

CNSNews.com Congresswoman Backs New Equal Rights Amendment; Points to Afghanistan, China as Models

Woman already have equal rights here. And this Amendment has been introduced in Congress every year since 1921, why do you suppose it hasn’t passed?

From CNSNews:

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) told activists rallying on Capitol Hill in support of the newly reintroduced Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), that the United States should join 27 other countries that have equality guarantees for women, including Rwanda, Algeria, China and Afghanistan.

“It does make a difference if an Equal Rights Amendment is in place or not,” Lee told the people who gathered outside of the Capitol on Tuesday.

“Twenty-seven other countries, including Rwanda, Afghanistan, Algeria and China have equality provisions,” Lee said.

Lee said she’s worked with Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) to ensure that the new Democratic government in Afghanistan addressed women’s rights.

“Even though we have many strides to make in Afghanistan that the women would at least have a place holder,” Lee said. “We know we are still fighting for equality and justice, but we insisted on a placeholder.

“Is America any less, that we should have more than a placeholder with the equal rights amendment?” Lee said.

According to the State Department’s 2008 report on human rights, the four countries cited by Jackson Lee are in fact described as nations where women face grave injustices, including rape, domestic abuse, and trafficking for prostitution.
